Emily Jessica     Friday, August 30, 2019

The fungi that usually appear on the toenails are not only unsightly, but they can threaten our health and require proper treatment. Therefore, if you have yellow, green or brown nails, do not wait to try any of the remedies that we are going to offer you to cure toenail fungus !

You should always go to your doctor first to be diagnosed that what you have in the nail is a fungus, but if you have been through it before, you may want to try some of the remedies below.

Toenail fungus

What are they?
In medical terms, they are called onychomycosis , but we all know them by the common name of nail fungus. This is very common, especially in the toenails, although they also occur in the toenails, and there are more cases in women than in men.

Once a nail is infected with a fungus , it can easily contaminate other fingers of the same limb (hand or foot). Cases of fungal spread from one member to another are very rare.

Causes of appearance
In general, fungi are caused by elements related to the external environment , such as humidity and high temperature, wearing narrow shoes all day, spending hours in a pool, etc. These fungi affect people who are in regular contact with water and adults over 60 who have diabetes, circulation problems or weak immune systems.

As soon as the fungus touches the nails, they become thicker and begin to turn yellow . Sometimes they acquire a gray, green, brown or even black color. Depending on the progression of the infection, it can invade the entire nail, which will begin to crumble until it falls. Then the skin will turn red, with swelling and irritation.

What to do so that fungi do not spread?

These tips will help you to spread fungi:

Do not wear shoes that are too tight or synthetic.
Fungi love humid, dark and poorly ventilated environments, as they provide them with the right conditions to multiply and spread. So try to stay as short as possible in the humidity during the winter. Do not use a material that does not allow the skin to breathe like plastic, and it is recommended to wear leather shoes, with possible openings to allow ventilation of the fingers.

Avoid walking barefoot in public places
Like gyms, changing rooms, showers or by the pool. It is better to wash and dry your feet before putting on your shoes.

Do not use other nail clippers
Always use your own equipment. Do not use the same accessory to cut the other nails, and thus avoid transmitting the fungus to other nails. Cut your nails in a straight and regular line.

Use 100% cotton socks
This type of socks absorb moisture from the feet. In case these socks get wet, do not hesitate to change them and apply talcum powder.

Home remedies to eliminate fungus on toenails

Olive oil

Mix 3 tablespoons of olive oil with 3 drops of tea tree oil and apply it to the infected area for at least 20 days.

Another remedy that we recommend is to mix a tablespoon of olive oil with 3 drops of oregano essential oil and apply this mixture daily for 3 weeks.

Lemon

Dip the infected nail in a lemon juice or apply the lemon directly on the nail .

Vinegar

Put a glass of apple cider vinegar in a bowl of water. Dip your feet for 20 minutes and then dry them well. You can use a hair dryer for this purpose to completely remove moisture.

Garlic

In a transparent bowl, place a clove of minced garlic, 3 drops of white iodine and 7 others of lemon . Let stand for a week, then apply a layer on the infected nail for two weeks.

On the other hand, you can also boil 5 cloves of garlic in a cup of water. Make the preparation in a bowl and place your feet there once the mixture is warm. Soak your toes for at least 15 minutes, then you should dry them well. You should repeat this operation for approximately 4 weeks.

Thyme

Boil 2 glasses of water with 3 tablespoons of thyme for 5 minutes . Turn off the heat, cover it and let it cool. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture to apply it to the affected nails.

Sodium bicarbonate

Mix baking soda with water to form a paste . Then, apply this mixture with a cotton on the entire nail, especially inside. Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
